About the project

Septalingua is a smart app for reading, working with documents and learning languages. Open your own texts, explore difficult terms, listen to pronunciation and build a personal vocabulary. The interface already supports 9 languages, with more to come.

🚀 What is available now? • Texts and documents: support for more than 15 popular book and document formats; see the full list under Format capabilities. A local library, search and navigation, notes and bookmarks in context. Click or tap to translate words, sentences or paragraphs. Built-in dictionaries and Wiktionary help you explore meanings. • Language learning and read-aloud: text-to-speech using your device's standard voices; higher-quality voices are planned. Build a personal vocabulary for revision. • Privacy and security: books open locally and are not uploaded to a server just for reading. Back up your data. Install offline packs in advance; online services require an internet connection. • Medical dictionaries and reference sources offer terms, codes and available definitions; coverage varies by source and language. • Registered users can open the translator and AI assistant without a book, edit requests and copy translations and answers. • Backups can be password protected on your device. Septalingua is built with privacy first. Protecting your data is our priority!

🔮 Future plans I started this project on my own, as a tool for myself, but it has grown into a much bigger idea. There is plenty ahead: • More interface and translation languages. • Interactive lessons, exercises and tests to help learning stick. • A community for people with shared interests: read together and exchange experiences. • More natural, higher-quality TTS voices. • Specialist legal explanatory dictionaries. • Text recognition in scanned documents and photos (OCR), for reading and translation. • Android and iOS apps.

💼 Understanding complex and specialist texts Septalingua is for more than foreign novels: use it with study materials, medical reports, legal contracts or technical documentation. The tools help you understand context, but do not replace professional advice. Know an open, useful reference source for your profession or language? Tell me through feedback and I will try to add it.

💰 Monetisation and a fair approach I develop the app in my spare time, using my own funds, without a large team or corporate budget. • Offline features and many online features will remain free. • No intrusive advertising. • AI without unnecessary markups: hosting, servers and AI requests cost money. I am preparing support for your own API key so you can control those costs; instructions will arrive with the feature. Providers set their own free allowances.

🤝 How can you help? Every idea and bit of help moves the project forward. 1. Become a tester: send me a request through the feedback form. 2. Suggest an improvement: found a bug or a way to make reading easier? Write to me; you do not need a tester role. 3. Want to thank me for a useful app? Visit the project support page.
